Day:4 | Activity:1 | Individual Pursuits | Making A Racket | Week 1 | (4 Points)

Billie Jean King, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams are three exceptional, female tennis players.
They are not only outstanding athletes and some of the best tennis players in the world, but
they have fought for women to be recognised as equals to men in the game of tennis. Billie
Jean King famously beat a male tennis player, Bobby Riggs, in 1973, to prove to the public that
women could compete at any level in tennis.
Billie Jean King was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987, received the
Presidential Medal of Freedom and was recently awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the
Year - Lifetime Achievement Award.

What to do: For this activity, watch these videos about Serena and Venus Williams.
On your blog, tell us three things that you learned from watching these videos, as well as one
thing you would still like to know.
___________________________________________________________________________
My work⬇️
  1. They are sisters
  2. They are both professional tennis players
  3. Serena Willams was born on 26 September 1981 (Saginaw, Michigan, US)
  4. Venus Williams was born on 17 June 1980 (Lynwood, California, US)

One thing I would still want to know - If serena and Venus Williams didn’t play tennis what other
hobbie would they play?

Well done for working your way through this years' SLJ programme, "Changemakers: People who have changed the world" - thanks for completing this activity, Making a Racket and for telling us what you learned about Serena and Venus Williams.
I had no idea that Venus was older than Serena, but I suppose they are quite close in age!

    Keep up the great mahi.

    Ngā mihi,
    Jordan

  2. Hi Kamaea, Mrs Collins from Manaiakalani again commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. I really like the narrative you shared about the Williams sisters - I'm hoping to see them when I go and watch the tennis next month in the city! Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  3. Hej Kamaea,

"If Serena and Venus Williams didn’t play tennis what other
hobbie would they play?" That is an interesting question indeed! What do you think the sisters would be doing with their careers if they didn't pursue tennis?

    Sincerely
    Riiana
