There are between 370 and 500 million Indigenous Peoples currently living in 90 countries
around the world. Together, they represent over 5000 different cultures and speak 4000
different languages. That is pretty amazing ‘eh?! I wish that I could speak 4000 languages!
Indigenous People is the term used to describe the people who were the first inhabitants of a
land. In Aotearoa, Māori are Indigenous. Indigenous people have rich and vibrant cultures that
make the world such a fascinating, varied and enriching place to live.

  1. Kia ora Kamaea,

Thank you for sharing about Australian Aboriginal people and Ainu people. I really enjoy the facts you chose for this acitivity. A fact I found really interesting was the fact that Australian Aboriginal's have lived in Australia for over 50,000 years. How interesting.

Which fact stood out to you?

  2. Hello Kamaea!

It sucks how indigenous people are treated. The Ainu had their land stolen from them and were banned to speak their own language!! That makes me mad!! Fortunately there are Ainu people that are willing to teach others everything about their lanuage.

Did you have fun researching these indigenous groups?
