Summer Learning Journey | Activity:3 | Choose your own | Last Activity For Week:3 |

You have now made it to the end of Week 3 and have earned the right to choose your very own
scientist, technologist, or inventor who you think has changed the world. There are no right or
wrong choices for this activity, so find someone who interests you and tell us about them on
your blog. It could be someone from your family, church or community or someone famous that
you admire.
Here are some starting points in case you get stuck:
______________________________
What To Do:For this activity, choose one person and read all about them.
On your blog, provide us with:
  1. The name of the person
  2. A description of the work they do/have done
  3. An explanation of how they/their work has had an impact on the lives of others

My Work and a picture⬇️
1.Taitusi Taufa

2. Taitusi Taufa comes from Tonga and he is full Tongan he comes from Tongatapu a village in
Tonga. He is teaching chemistry at the University of the South pacific in Fiji. He has also found
new medicinal properties in marine sponges collected from Tongan waters, including several
unique anti-cancer compounds.

3.When Taitusi was 8 years old growing up in Tonga he accidentally poked a stick into his
cousins eye. The doctors had told them there was nothing they could do. They also said that he
would never see out of that eye. But luckily a traditional healer from another neighbouring
village applied drops from a local plant and within a month his cousin could see again!

  1. Hello Kamaea,
I don't remember the last time I commented on your blog, so it must have been a long time. I really enjoyed reading your blog post! Let me elaborate on why I like it. Firstly, you added a picture of him. Secondly, you told us what he is doing now and what happened before. I think that the plant that saved his cousin is amazing. I mean I don't know what it is, but it is a live saver. Maybe next time you could add what you learned from this activity. Overall, this is a phenomenal blog post! Keep up the astonishing work!

  4. Hey Kamaea,

I love learning about changemakers! It's unfortunate that that had happened to his cousin but luckily a certain plant fixed it! What plant DID help Taitusi Taufa's cousins' eye heal?

    Kind regards,
    Riiana
