You may have heard people talking about an issue called ‘Climate change’. Climate change
refers to an increase in the temperature of our planet. Warmer temperatures can cause natural
disasters (floods, storms, droughts, bushfires, hurricanes, etc), rising sea levels, and the
extinction (disappearance) of plants and animals.
Many people in New Zealand (and overseas) are worried about climate change, including
Greta Thunberg, a 16 year old girl from Sweden. She believes that climate change is not only
real, but that it is a “crisis”. She is upset that adults, particularly governments and powerful
people, are not taking climate change seriously. In 2018 she began protesting outside the

  1. Kia ora Kamaea,

You seem incredibly well informed about climate change - and I agree, it is a huge problem and we need to act now! We only have one Earth.

I am so happy to see that your family uses reusable bags. That is fantastic. And the great thing is you can use them for so many different things day-to-day!

What do you think about Greta Thunberg and her message? I'd be interested to know what you think :)

  2. Hello again Erica, It is very important to be saving the planet because we only have one earth! and that is right. I have put a link to Greta Thunbergs message. I think she is good and she is telling people to save the earth!

  3. Hello Kamaea

Good job on completing this activity. The three facts that you have listed are great. You're absolutely right - we only have one Earth and it can't be replaced if it is ruined by global warming. I think that using reusable bags instead of plastic ones is a great idea as we will be limiting the amount of plastic we are producing and throwing away. Keep up the good work Kamaea!

  4. Hey Kamaea,

Go you and your family for using reusable bags!! So much could have been different if the higher-ups took climate change seriously! What would you do to help spread awareness for climate change?

    Looking forward to your response,
    Riiana
