Over the years, many important discoveries have been made by clever people looking to help
others. Two of these are women - Florence Nightingale and Marie Curie whose work has been
widely recognised and appreciated. Both women lived extraordinary lives.

Florence Nightingale was born in 1820 in England. When she grew up, she trained to be a
nurse and, as an adult, was sent to Turkey during the Crimean War to look after wounded
soldiers. When she arrived, the hospitals were very dirty so she spent money to clean them up
and to provide the soldiers with quality care. She saved many lives.

Marie Curie was born in Poland in 1867. Eventually, she moved to France to go to university.
While there, she learned a lot about physics, chemistry and maths.
She spent her career conducting experiments that led to the discovery of chemical elements.
She was also the first person to use an x-ray machine to look at the human body. She earned
two Nobel Prizes for her work.

Nobel Prizes are given out every year to people who have done something extraordinary in six
specific fields of study - Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Peace, and Economics.

On your blog, tell your readers who you chose and then tell us about them in five to ten
sentences. Who were they? What did they do that was so special? Feel free to include a

My Work and pictures⬇️
I chose Marie Curie she was born on the 7 of November 1867 and sadly died on the July the 4th
1934. She was a Scientist and best known for Her work in radioactivity. Marie Curie grew up in
Warsaw, Poland. Marie Curie’s birth name was Maria Sklodowska, but her family called her
Manya for short. Marie’s parents were both great teachers. Her dad taught math and physics for
children and her mom was headmistress at a girl's school. Marie was the youngest of five children!

Have you thought where we would be without Marie Curie Kamaea? Marie Skłodowska Curie, born Maria Salomea Skłodowska, was a Polish and naturalized-French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity...A towering figure in the history of chemistry and physics, Marie Curie is most famous for the discovery of the elements polonium and radium. Prohibited from higher education in her native Poland (then controlled by Russia), she moved to Paris in 1891 and studied at the Sorbonne.
ReplyDeleteDid you know;
HER PARENTS WERE TEACHERS. ...
SHE HAD TO SEEK OUT ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION FOR WOMEN. ...
SHE'S THE ONLY PERSON TO WIN NOBEL PRIZES IN TWO SEPARATE SCIENCES. ...
SHE ADDED TWO ELEMENTS TO THE PERIODIC TABLE. ...
NOBEL PRIZE-WINNING RUNS IN HER FAMILY. ...
SHE DID HER MOST IMPORTANT WORK IN A SHED. ...
HER NOTEBOOKS ARE STILL RADIOACTIVE.
Kia ora Kamaea,
ReplyDeleteWow! Radioactivity? Sounds like she's had to go near radioactive areas. Do you know how her experiments went? How did Marie get to the point she's at?
Sincerely,
Riiana
